Position Summary:
The Construction Helper/Labourer is responsible for supporting various construction activities by performing manual labor tasks, assisting skilled tradespeople, and ensuring that job sites are clean, safe, and organized. This role is critical in contributing to the successful completion of construction projects, including residential, commercial, and industrial builds.

Key Responsibilities

Site Preparation and Maintenance

Load, unload, and transport construction materials to and from work areas.

Erect and dismantle scaffolding, concrete forms, ramps, catwalks, shoring, and barricades as required.

Clean construction sites by removing rubble, debris, and salvaged materials using tools such as shovels, rakes, and wheelbarrows.

Perform general site clean-up and ensure safe working conditions.

Assisting Trades and Operators

Assist tradespeople such as carpenters, bricklayers, roofers, and cement finishers in construction tasks.

Support heavy equipment operators by securing special attachments, signaling movements, and providing assistance during operations.

Tend or feed machines and equipment, such as mixers, compressors, and pumps.

Construction Activities

Mix, pour, and spread materials such as concrete and asphalt.
-
Use hand and power tools to level earth, assist with framing, or demolish structures as directed.

Install, remove, and adjust structures, such as temporary supports or safety barriers.

Perform tasks such as aligning pipes, using pneumatic hammers, and preparing surfaces for construction activities.

Safety and Compliance

Follow safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Direct traffic near construction sites to ensure the safety of workers and pedestrians.

Handle hazardous materials, such as asbestos or chemical spills, in compliance with safety guidelines.

Skills and Qualifications

Experience
-
Previous experience as a construction laborer or helper is an asset but not required; on-the-job training is available.

Familiarity with basic construction practices, tools, and equipment is preferred.

Technical Expertise

Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.

Basic understanding of blueprints and schematics is an asset.

Knowledge of site safety and efficient work habits.

Physical and Interpersonal Skills

Strong physical stamina to perform heavy lifting, kneeling, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.

Ability to follow directions, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively in a team environment.

Certification

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Workplace safety training, such as WHMIS or Fall Arrest Protection, is an asset.

Must have personal protective equipment (PPE) and reliable transportation to job sites.
