Position Summary:
The Concrete Finisher is responsible for finishing, repairing, and restoring concrete surfaces on various structures such as floors, walls, roads, and foundations. This role involves preparing and leveling concrete, applying finishes, and ensuring compliance with project specifications and safety standards. Concrete Finishers play an essential role in delivering high-quality and durable results for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.

Key Responsibilities

Concrete Preparation and Placement
-
Check formwork, granular base, and steel reinforcement materials to ensure readiness for concrete placement.

Direct and oversee the placement of concrete into forms or onto surfaces according to grade.

Operate power vibrators to compact concrete and eliminate air pockets.
-
Install anchor bolts, steel plates, door sills, and other fixtures in freshly poured concrete.
-
Surface Finishing
-
Fill hollows and remove high spots to smooth freshly poured concrete.
-
Level the top surface of concrete to grade and depth specifications using straightedges or floats.
-
Impart desired texture and finish to concrete surfaces using hand and power tools.
-
Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure concrete surfaces.
-
Waterproof, damp-proof, and restore concrete surfaces as needed.

Repair and Maintenance

Repair, resurface, and replace worn or damaged sections of concrete structures such as floors, walls, and roads.

Conduct inspections to ensure the quality and durability of completed work.

Collaboration and Supervision

Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project specifications to ensure accurate execution of tasks.

Instruct apprentices and junior workers on concrete finishing techniques and safety protocols.

Work collaboratively with other trades and construction team members to meet project timelines.

Skills and Qualifications

Experience
-
Proven experience in concrete finishing, with a portfolio of completed projects.

Experience in working with both structural and decorative concrete applications.

Technical Expertise

Proficiency in reading blueprints and technical specifications.

Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and specialized concrete finishing equipment.

Knowledge of concrete curing, sealing, and restoration techniques.

Physical and Interpersonal Skills

Physical stamina and ability to handle heavy loads (up to 100 lbs).

Ability to perform repetitive tasks in a physically demanding environment.

Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and commitment to quality workmanship.

Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

Certification

Completion of a two- to four-year apprenticeship program or equivalent work experience in concrete finishing.

Trade certification for Concrete Finishers (preferred or required depending on location).

Red Seal certification is an asset.

Preferred Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Familiarity with working on scaffolding, swing stages, or at heights.

Valid driverβs license and ability to travel to job sites as required.
