Position Summary:
A Carpenter is responsible for constructing, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures made of wood and other materials. This role involves reading and interpreting blueprints, measuring and assembling materials, and performing installations and repairs in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. The Carpenter plays a key role in ensuring quality craftsmanship, adhering to safety standards, and collaborating with team members to deliver successful projects.

Key Responsibilities

Project Execution and Craftsmanship

Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and material requirements.

Measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials such as wood, wood substitutes, and lightweight steel.

Construct foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls and roof systems.

Perform installations of doors, windows, stairs, moldings, cabinets, siding, drywall, and insulation.

Repair and renovate wooden structures in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

Ensure all work meets project specifications, building codes, and quality standards.

Conduct inspections of completed work to identify and resolve deficiencies.

Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.

Collaboration and Supervision

Collaborate with other tradespeople, subcontractors, and team members to ensure project efficiency and timely completion.

Supervise apprentices or junior team members, providing guidance and skill development opportunities.

Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders.

Tools and Equipment

Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment safely and effectively.

Ensure tools and materials are properly stored and accounted for on-site.

Skills and Qualifications

Experience
-
Proven experience as a Carpenter, with a strong portfolio of completed projects.

Previous experience in framing, finishing, cabinetry, or other carpentry techniques preferred.

Technical Expertise

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.

Proficiency with hand tools and power tools, including saws, drills, sanders, and measuring instruments.

Familiarity with building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.

Physical and Interpersonal Skills

Physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks involving heavy lifting and manual labor.

Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and commitment to quality workmanship.

Certification

Red Seal certification in carpentry (preferred but not mandatory).

Completion of an apprenticeship program or equivalent work experience in carpentry.

Preferred Qualifications

Post-secondary education or training in carpentry or a related field.

Valid driverβs license and reliable transportation to job sites.

Ownership of personal hand tools and equipment.
